DCA's core services are provided by six major divisions, which are supported by a training section and three other divisions/sections as follows:

Aerodromes Engineering Division

Aerodromes Engineering Division (AED) is responsible for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of airport facilities (i.e. runways, taxiways, buildings, electrical and mechanical facilities) around the country.  The division   is also responsible for advising other planning authorities of development plans around airports and/or airfields, including height restrictions countrywide.  However, the bulk of development projects identified for implementation during National Development Plan (NDP) 8 have been deferred to NDP 9.

Air Traffic Services

Air Traffic Services (ATS) is the division responsible for the management of air space and it is jointly speaheading DCA's programme of communications navigation and surveillance/air traffic management (CNS/ATM), together with TED. Further, ATS is the responsible organ of DCA with regard to Search and Rescue (SAR) coordination. ATS comprises of air traffic control (ATC) and aeronautical information service (AIS).

Air Transport Division

Air Transport Division (ATD) is responsible for providing the policy and economic framework to ensure the continued growth of civil aviation in Botswana.  The division provides a balanced and comprehensive mechanism    for the assessment and development of air services agreements with other States.  It coordinates all matters pertaining to regulations, air law instruments, and ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs).  Other major functions include issuance of  Air Transport Licenses and Temporary Air Service Permits and   tariff approval/economic regulator for national airline.  ATD maintains the air traffic data and also provides the traffic forecast.  Cost recovery measures and establishment and review of aviation fees are other areas of its responsibilities.

Aviation Ground Services

Being the largest division of DCA, Aviation Ground Services (AGS) is responsible for airport management, aviation security, and fire and rescue services. The division is also responsible for licensing of airfields around the country including those that are privately owned.

Flight Safety Division

Flight Safety Division (FSD) is the central part of the regulatory machinery of DCA. It is responsible for flight safety oversight in the country as well as the investigation of aircraft accidents and incidents. The division comprises of Airworthiness, Flight Operations, and Personnel Licensing.

Telecommunications Engineering Division

This is the division responsible for the commissioning, installation, maintenance, and operation of air navigational aids in and around the airports. It is also in charge of the Departmental IT unit. The division comprises of both Engineering and Communications Operations.

DCA Training Section

Civil aviation is a highly specialized field that requires its personnel to continuously keep abreast of the technological and operational developments in the field, in order to meet the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO's) standards and recommended practices (SARPs).  Thus, training and development of human resources is a vital component of the department and contributes to safety and efficiency of operations.  The Training Section is, therefore, responsible for planning, implementing, and managing the departmental training activities.
